A second important application scenario for DVC includes wireless visual sensor networks [31]. Since sensor nodes are typically battery-powered, the reduced energy consumption of the encoding step in the case of DVC is a great advantage. Another example is wireless capsule endoscopy [15].

In DVC, the prediction is generated at the decoder instead of at the encoder. As this prediction— called side information—typically contains errors, additional information is sent from the encoder to the decoder to allow correcting the side information.
